Hairy solutions for oil spill

Light waves, a giant dome, and 400,000 pounds of cast-off hair, fur and nylons are among the innovative solutions sought to help clean up the massive, growing oil slick in the Gulf of Mexico.
The nonprofit group Matter of Trust is collecting hair from salons across the country to make oil-absorbing booms by stuffing human and pet hair into nylon stockings.
So far, Matter of Trust has collected 400,000 pounds of hair.

This is a very good and clean solution for the oil spill.

Computer Table

"For years I've been throwing old computer boards into a box in the garage to someday recycle them into some sort of project. It finally popped in my head to create a table with them using some of the black walnut from a tree we cut down a few years ago and had milled in the yard with a portable mill.

"It's basically two tables. One internal table to screw the boards to and another set of wood frames with glass that slide on top of the board table. It's basically a wood diorama. It will be very easy to swap out the computer boards with something else once we get tired of the look of the boards".

Nokia Kinect

Designer Jeremy Hopkins, perhaps taking a cue from those inflatable clown punching bags that would always right themselves thanks to a special weight, has designed the Nokia Kinetic to do pretty much the exact same thing.
The most eye-catching aspect here is that prominent base houses an electromagnet that allows the phone to spring up on cue when an alarm goes off, for instance, or during a hands-free video call (simply flip the phone back down to dismiss the action).

Vodafone Head Office - Portugal

The super modern building was designed by architects José António Barbosa and Pedro Guimarães of Barbosa Guimarães Arquitectos.
Vodafone’s well publicized Portuguese headquarters is located on Avenida da Boavista in Porto (Oporto), the namesake of Port wine and Portugal’s second global city after Lisbon.
The architects’ wish to reflect Vodafone’s credo “Vodafone Life, Life in Motion” lead to the creation of a building that challenges the static and appears to be out of balance. Three of the angular building’s eight floors are underground. The cross-section reveals an uneven footprint almost as if the entire structure had fallen from sky at a great speed and crashed itself into the earth where it now sits, only partly exposed and slightly disheveled.

Bendable bicycle

Do you left at home your lock to parking your bicycle in a shady neighborhood? No problem, just bend your bike around a nearby post and thread your U-lock through the whole kit at once. That's the idea behind UK designer Kevin Scott's folding bicycle, which is rigid enough to freely ride, but releases its flexible ratcheting mechanism when you push a lever on the side.

Soy Mamelle

Packaging concept by Russian agency, Kian:

"The KIAN brand agency took on the process of naming, formulating a creative brand conception, and creating the package shape. Soy milk “Soy mamelle” is a 100% vegetative product.
The developed conception of the package shape resembled an udder, which presents the first half of the message in that soy milk is identical to that of a cow. The second part of the message is delivered via the colour score and décor of the packaging, which concentrate on the phytogenesis of the product, creating an image of nature and health.

The legs of the packaging are made of special valves and dose systems which allow the container to fill multiple glasses simultaneously by gently squeezing it. In this case, the process of interacting with the packaging becomes more alive and interesting."
